Khastoo Gallery says…

Two Iranian artists share the rooms at Khastoo Gallery this month, as Vahid Sharifian and Mahmoud Bakhshi Moakhar — both of whom live and work in Tehran — present their first exhibitions in the US. Sharifian presents a series of mediated digital photographs based on a vintage, kitsch-saturated cookbook featuring Sophia Loren; installed in a sculptural environment, its overall effect is one of visual and conceptual reflection, sustaining the artist's satirical insight into pop culture's quirks and fetish for consumption. Moakhar also presents a photo-based installation investigating the illusion of appearance and surface, with a series of thrice-removed pictures of flowers that traces their lineage from the real to the artificial.
