After documenting the Great Depression in San Francisco, Sam Cherry photographed the seeds of the Beat Generation at the city's Black Cat Café. He faithfully shadowed Charles Bukowski, shooting the most honest portraits of California's own "Poet Laureate of Skid Row" before moving on to capture LA's Skid Row itself, decades later, in the '80s. Cherry's images are exhibited alongside those from the seven-year collaboration between William S. Burroughs and Malcolm McNeill, AH POOK IS HERE. The ill-fated, but no less ambitious graphic-novel prototype has remained incomplete, but its prints, paintings, and drawings are finally on view.
