With the release of last year's LP3, Ratatat tried to move beyond their usual synth-driven electrorock and pitch-perfect rap remixes in favor of a more experimental, atmospheric sound. With the tribal drums and glitch-happy noises of "Mirando" and the slow-burning ambiance of "Shiller," Ratatat have found a way out of being pigeonholed, still making fresh, layered music that seems to get better with every listen. Their well-honed, lights-flashing, screen-projecting, effects-pedaling live show will be in force at the Hollywood Palladium tonight.
