The Kills spent much of their early career dodging a barrage of White Stripes comparisons. While more astute reviewers identified bluesy experimentalists like Royal Trux as a more fitting sonic touchstone, it took Alison "VV" Mosshart and Jamie "Hotel" Hince two more albums and some major stylistic shifts to stake out their own turf. Now, Mosshart seems to be defying anyone looking to dust off those old critical platitudes by signing on as lead singer in Jack White's latest side project, the Dead Weather, which so far sounds more Kills than Stripes. British garage rockers the Horrors open in support of their new album, Primary Colours, which finds them gently expanding their largely derivative sound.
