LA-based performance artist, photographer, and visual philosopher Amy Kaps is obsessed with patterns — of thought, behavior, history, and form — often using her own body as the reference point for her quasi-archeological reconnaissance projects. Previous works include a spoken-word piece in which she names all her lovers, and an ongoing archival project in which she attempts to accumulate a visual encyclopedia of the female nude in art history. This time, her optical hunter-gatherer penchant is trained on the circle — a deceptively simple, infinitely expandable premise that provides just enough focus to shape the otherwise unruly collection of photos (nipples, street lights, bottle caps, stains, machine parts) into a dynamic, poetic whole.
