Matahati ke Matadunia
May 9, 2009 – June 20, 2009
Tuesdays–Saturdays (11am–5pm)
Seni Contemporary
5797 Washington Blvd
Note:
The exhibition is free; the Live Draw! event is $40.
Art critic Peter Frank and gallerist Delia Cabral want you to see what they've seen. On a recent curatorial reconnaissance trip to Malaysia, they entered an ebullient, almost chaotically vibrant, contemporary art scene, whose most dynamic artists work with memes both international (read: Western) and resolutely exotic (Eastern). A pop-up exhibition space in the heart of the Culver City gallery district plays host to an ambitious group exhibition in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur-based artists collective Matahati ke Matadunia, featuring a gallery talk with Frank and the group's members on May 12, and an international edition of DCA's Live Draw! event in the gallery on Thursday, May 14.
