Yoskay Yamamoto is all about fusion. His art, illustration, and design have become wildly popular among the urban-romantic set, whose aesthetic pumps have been primed by recent generations of polyglot artists like Don Ed Hardy, David Choe, and Barry McGee. Building on this internationalized system of sampled signifiers, Yamamoto merges image-making traditions from graffiti to tribal tattoo flash; Asian folklore to American pop culture; insider and outsider languages of power and beauty; art history; and, of course, rock n' roll music, into a more-than-the-sum-of-its-parts visual style.
