Deirdre Timmons' debut feature-length documentary, A Wink and a Smile follows the lives of ten pupils as they learn to strut their stuff at Seattle's esteemed Academy of Burlesque. During the six-week striptease intensive, endearingly bawdy headmistress Miss Indigo Blue lectures on how to expertly bump 'n grind while retaining that demure je ne sais quoi. A journalist, a doctor, an opera singer, and a taxidermist are among those learning how to "peel and reveal," with performances by veteran ecdysiasts also providing a window into the tantalizing world of contemporary burlesque.
