A concurrent exhibition of Fallen Fruit's newest project, United Fruit, opens at LACE on June 16.
Fallen Fruit — the artist collective formed by David Burns, Matias Viegener, and Austin Young — has typically been known more for public projects, interventions, and actions than the production of gallery-friendly (as in, sellable) works. In its first attempt to embrace the gallery system, the group shows new, limited-edition work, as well as documentation of related projects — such as etched-glass jars from its "Public Fruit Jam" happenings, featuring vodka infused with fruit found on the block where each event took place. The exhibition's August 2 closing party coincides with the largest Public Fruit Jam to date, at Machine Project in nearby Echo Park on the same day.
