Brazilian national treasures Skank have been cranking out booty-movin' beats since they first formed in the early '90s. The band shares its name with the dance style favored by ska fans, and has released ten albums and toured worldwide; tonight, it appears at Club Nokia for its long-overdue LA debut. Initially seeking to fuse Jamaican dancehall with traditional Brazilian pop, Skank have expanded their repertoire to incorporate elements of Britpop, reggae, progressive rock, bossa nova, Brazilian country, classical, and jazz. The Brazilian Nites co-production also features a DJ set by LA-based Brazilian native Tatiana Fontes, who mixes '80s, house, rock, and electronica.
