Since his seminal book Statements came out in 1968, Lawrence Weiner has been at the forefront of conceptual art. Using language as primary material, Weiner's pieces don't have singular homes, but rather many separate manifestations — be it stenciled on a sidewall, burned into a manhole cover, or painted on canvas. The verbiage is the constant, with both situation and viewer forever remaining variables.
