Joseph Rubinstein: The Leading Victim at Integrated Circus Gallery
Wednesday July 15, 2009 (8pm–midnight)
Integrated Circus Gallery
216 S. Spring Street
The Integrated Circus is more than just a groovy name for a gallery — it's a literal description of the kind of creative cross-pollination that goes on inside. Not only does its reclaimed industrial space look like NYC's Lower East Side circa 1986, but the gallery's directors are also channeling the subversive, boundary-blurring art that flourished there. Blending avant-couture fashion with contemporary art exhibitions and unpredictable performative happenings, the Integrated Circus folk combine art that you can see, touch, wear, collect, and even participate in. This month's incarnation of their revolving showcase features creepy/sexy fashionista murder-scene photography from Joe Rubinstein, an enormous rhino sculpture assembled extemporaneously from materials at hand during last week's opening event, and the eye-popping, one-of-a-kind shredded and retooled garage-glam clothing of Bohemian Society (aka Victor Wilde).
