Albita is a self-assured powerhouse whose upbeat performance style is infused with the traditional musicality of Cuba in both sound and soul. A native Cubana who moved to the USA in 1990, she presents songs pulled from her own experiences, fusing her heritage with an embrace of contemporary American chart-topping pop. Albita won a pair of GRAMMYs in 2004, including one for Best Tropical Album — a seemingly random category that makes a lot more sense when you see her live, backed by a full horn- and percussion-heavy band, as she is this evening.
