Written and directed by '80s teen-movie maestro John Hughes, Sixteen Candles stars Molly Ringwald as Sam Baker, a high-school sophomore celebrating her 16th birthday while her frenzied family frets over her older sister's impending wedding. Fighting off computer geeks and a drunken foreign-exchange student, Sam struggles to secure the attention of her dashing crush, Jake Ryan — who is already intrigued by the redheaded ingénue, unbeknown to her.
