Jay Brannan's new record, In Living Color, succeeds where other cover compilations crash and burn. The disc paints fresh strokes over some of music's masterpieces, while capturing Brannan's electric and spontaneous live shows, where fans are treated to impromptu re-workings of everything from Lisa Loeb to NWA. Brannan imprints his charisma on a number of classics, including Bob Dylan ("Blowing In The Wind"), Joni Mitchell ("All I Want"), and Terra Naomi ("Say It's Possible"), who appears on stage tonight along with SoCal singer Civalias.
