If late-night Def Poetry Jam reruns just aren't doing it for you anymore, get yourself to the monthly soul-check that is Flypoet — a raucous LA institution that's one-third music show, one-third incendiary poetry slam, and one-third performance-art exhibition. Tonight's headliners are man's man basketball freak, champion poet, and acclaimed stage actor Steve Connell, and Sekou tha Misfit, whose recent album, Afrodeezyackz/The Mumblings of a Madman, is a true labor of love that proves how rocking the page can be — just as compelling as catchy hooks. They are joined by a roster of special guests, soulful musicians, and live-action improv painter, anti-war activist, and Flypoet regular Norton Wisdom.
