A recent LA Times article shared some entertaining 90-year-old memories of the Hollywood Bowl: acoustic achievements, reflecting pools and dancing fountains during a Beatles concert, and the local teenagers who roamed the '40s-era benches selling 10-cent programs. Some of those one-time hipsters should be in the house tonight, along with a new generation of Bowlers, as the Great American Songbook plays the starring role in this tribute to LA's most historical musical monument. On the bill: singer Jewel — who'll perform classics by Gershwin, Berlin, Porter, and other luminary lyricists — special guest Michael Feinstein, conductor Thomas Wilkins, the world-famous Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and, fittingly, fireworks.
