Daring frontwoman of arguably the coolest punk band ever, X, Exene Cervenka has considerable talents off the stage as well, starting with her fine art. Her rough-hewn yet sophisticated mixed-media collages combine materials like book pages, paintings, postcards, playing cards, and a gaggle of eclectic, paper-based memes to construct hybridized thematic visual objects. Wayne White renders cheeky, even off-color, slogans in modern fonts atop found and vintage genre paintings, with hilarious — yet still pretty — results.
