826LA hosts a paddle-boat regatta at Echo Park Lake in order to raise funds for its free writing and tutoring programs for kids. Teams representing Filter, Spaceland, and others are already on board, having geared up weeks before the series of boat races to raise money for the beloved nonprofit. Participants get free admittance to the Allston Yacht Club after-party as well as goodie bags, and the winners of the second annual East Side regatta get a selection of prizes, too. But it really doesn't matter who pedals fastest in the end, just who manages to raise the most money for the real winners – the kids.
