Egyptian Theatre says…

In 1955, the Guggenheim Foundation commissioned Swiss-born photographer and filmmaker Robert Frank to photograph elements of US life for the publication of The Americans, which featured an introduction by Jack Kerouac and pushed the boundaries of photography with its now-trademark blurry, cropped images and unconventional lighting. MoCA celebrates the 50th anniversary of the US publication of the book with selections from its permanent collection alongside a major retrospective of his films. Tonight, LA Filmforum screens Frank's most recent works, which feature his photography, portions of his earlier films, and works by family members — providing a thoughtful autobiography of one of America's visionary artists.
