Landmark Nuart Theatre says…

Upon its release in 1986, Betty Blue fascinated audiences with its unabashed sexuality, raw performances, and heart-wrenching subject matter. Now, the film is back with 60 additional minutes, as Jean-Jacques Beineix's director's cut makes its way to the Nuart for a one-week run. Adapted from Philippe Dijian’s novel 37°2 le matin, the exemplary piece of French cinema stars the sultry Béatrice Dalle, whose personal life famously mirrored the insanity of the film's titular character — eventually inspiring the lead singer of the Distillers/Spinnerette to take the actress' last name in homage. The film is screened in conjunction with a Beineix retrospective at the American Cinematheque, along with the recent release of The Jean-Jacques Beineix Collection on DVD.
