A nonprofit designed to foster nonfiction film and video, the 27-year-old International Documentary Association also hosts the yearly DocuWeeks Theatrical Documentary Showcase; this year it offers 18 international feature-length films, as well as ten shorts. As a forum for Oscar-qualifying documentaries, the program has yielded 16 Academy Award nominations and seven wins, with a line-up designed to appeal to even the most discerning docu-buff. The 13th annual showcase includes Soundtrack for a Revolution, exploring the Civil Rights movement though music; Rock Prophecies, a biography of '60s music photographer Robert Knight; Living in Emergency: The Story of Doctors Without Borders; and Smile 'Til It Hurts: The Up With People Story.
