Dark Night of the Soul is a two-pronged project: The visual element, represented by an exhibition at Michael Kohn Gallery through July 11, features psych-noir master David Lynch's photographic interpretations of the music created by collaborators Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse. As a result of a dispute with EMI, the record — featuring vocal contributions from members of the Strokes, the Cardigans, the Flaming Lips, the Pixies, and Super Furry Animals — is no longer receiving an official release. However, a book containing Lynch's artwork and enhanced, limited-edition features, is available; and tonight at Book Soup, the artists are all on hand wielding their Sharpies.
