Outfest 2009

Outfest returns for its annual spotlight on emerging LGBT film and filmmakers, featuring old-school faves, outdoor screenings (two words: Funny Girl), and big, big parties. Among this year's highlights is the Orpheum opening-night feature, La Mission, starring Benjamin Bratt as a macho Latino bus driver moving toward his queer son. Also on the bill: Friday's College Boys Live, an explicit doc about gay-for-pay webcammers; Saturday's Give Me Your Hand, a French road-trip flick; Sunday's Pop Star on Ice doc, about aspiring figure skater Johnny Weir; and City of Borders, spotlighting Jerusalem's labyrinthine divides, as reflected through the openly gay population of the Holy City's Shushan nightclub.
