UK alt-rocker Billy Bragg has been cranking out a heady blend of punk, folk, and protest music for over 30 years, teaming up with such luminaries as Wilco, R.E.M., and Natalie Merchant along the way. Now, the British bard tries his hand at the music of German composer Ludwig van Beethoven, reinterpreting the finale to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, "Ode to Joy." Tonight's performance at the Broad Stage marks the US premiere of Bragg's rendition of the classical music maestro's iconic piece, which is further brought to life by a wide-ranging series of international chorale groups and other vocalists.
