While it's easy to become unhinged in our current economic climate, artist Claire Oswalt takes it to the next level, fashioning cutouts of figures to create her own series of lifelike human marionettes mounted on paper. Made of wood and graphite and painstakingly drawn to the smallest detail, the puppets pose in mid-action, frozen in emotionally charged scenes. Puppetmaster Oswalt wields her power by fixing the joints of the puppets and disabling their movement to explore the fine line between control and freedom.
