Salon No. 2: Works 030-065

One silver lining to art-world downsizing is the resurgence of the private salon, made famous by the 19th and 20th century Parisian scene, in which patrons with bohemian leanings invited artists, musicians, and poets into their homes to present their avant-garde offerings in more luxurious (translation: user-friendly) environments. Curator Claressinka Anderson is at the forefront of this trend's resurgence in LA, staging group shows at her Venice digs. The current crop features edgy, but deeply beautiful, work from a group of young LA artists including Rives Granade's architectural and anatomical aberrations, Steve Kim's eloquent visual-narrative pastiches, Valerie Molnar's monumental radical craft installation, and Val Britton's collage-based abstractions that combine a refined art historical sense with expressive cartography to stirring effect.
