“Adapted from Stefan Aust's 1985 publication, The Baader Meinhof Complex chronicles the reckless idealism and hectic resolve of Germany's Red Army Faction, spearheaded by left-wing journalist Ulrike Meinhof (Martina Gedeck) and Andreas Baader (Moritz Bleibtreu) in the early 1970s. Drawing from eyewitness reports, speeches, and other original texts, the film's narrative is coupled with an authentic eye to the past, relying on original photos and documentaries to help guide the art direction. In the 2008 Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, director Uli Edel (Last Exit to Brooklyn) offers an engaging account of the threat to the precarious state of German democracy as well as a commentary on the practice of pursuing unrealistic ideals.”

THE BAADER MEINHOF COMPLEX, 2008, Vitagraph Films, 155 min. Dir. Uli Edel (LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN). Following a sold-out weekend engagement in November & January and inclusion on John Waters' Artforum Top Ten Films of 2009 list, THE BAADER MEINHOF COMPLEX is back on the biggest screen at the Egyptian by popular request. And this really is the last time you'll have this opportunity to see it on the big screen (that we know of) for awhile. It is a must see on the big screen with big sound and picture.
Germany 1967: The children of the Nazi generation have grown up in the devastation their parents created. They vowed fascism would never rule again. In their fight for freedom they lost themselves in the cause and ignited a revolution around the world. Meet the original faces of terrorism, the Baader Meinhof Group, in this Academy Award- and Golden Globe-nominated film. Starring Martina Gedeck (THE LIVES OF OTHERS), Moritz Bleibtreu, Joanna Wokalek (POPE JOAN, NORTH FACE), Bruno Ganz. Directed by Uli Edel (LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN). Produced by Bernd Eichinger (LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN and DOWNFALL).
Director Uli Edel and Producer Bernd Eichinger will appear in person for discussion following the screening. DVD and other Baader Meinhof giveaways!
