From 1966-2001, legendary artist Robert Rauschenberg partnered with the impressive printmakers at LA's Gemini G.E.L. to produce an astonishing 250-plus groundbreaking prints and multiples. Rauschenberg at Gemini is an unprecedented and spectacular survey of over 50 of their innovative and captivating collaborations. Curated by the Armory's Jay Belloli, the exhibition offers an impressive series of firsts — for Rauschenberg, Gemini, and printmaking — including the artist's debut Gemini print, Booster, a self portrait produced from X-rays of his own body. Utilizing materials as diverse as cardboard boxes, exotic silks, window shades, and fluorescent lighting, as well as his photographs of Los Angeles and his overseas adventures in Tibet, China, and Morocco, Rauschenberg joyfully pushed (and pulled) the boundaries of printmaking — in scale, scope, variation, and interactivity.
