Note:
The production debuts at the intimate Long Beach Opera on January 23.
First performed in 1958, Robert Kurka's opera The Good Soldier Schweik is the satirical tale of a bumbling Czech soldier and his well-intended misadventures during World War One. Based on Jaroslav Hašek's 1923 novel, which many literary critics consider to be one of the world's first anti-war novels, the story also inspired Joseph Heller's Catch-22 and a Bertolt Brecht play. Mathew DiBattista plays Schweik; Long Beach Opera's Artistic and General Director Andreas Mitisek conducts.
