Originally from LA, painter and mixed media artist Mike Roman put in his time on New York's Lower East Side back when that meant something a lot rougher and grittier than it does now. From his current vantage point in the Bay Area, he surveys and harvests his personal experience and the broader cultural context, creating omnivorous works that incorporate stencils, textiles, sculptural and collaged elements, and pretty much whatever is lying around — a harmonious chaos of layers that represents the geography of memory.
