In November 2007, media artist and activist Paul Chan collaborated with the Classical Theatre of Harlem to mount a timely production of the Samuel Beckett classic Waiting For Godot in locations across New Orleans that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina, including the now-infamous Lower Ninth Ward. More than two years and a slow recovery later, Chan's multimedia presentation about this groundbreaking endeavor is still as poignant and revealing as it was to the crowds of local residents who first witnessed it.
