The current group show at Santa Monica's Bleicher/Golightly Gallery is a celebration of misuse. Nine artists manipulate, rehabilitate, disguise, and deprive ordinary objects of their traditional functions, replacing them with more imaginative aspects. Photo-collage, flowing water, lights, moving parts, pyrotechnics, and a healthy sense of humor are the order of the day. There will be a live musical concert in the gallery on Friday, February 19 (7-9pm), which promises to be every bit as experimental and off-the-wall as the art. Or come back and check it out on Saturday, February 20; they further celebrate the grand opening of their new space-within-a-space, Nano Gallery, with a reception for Gert-Jan Akerboom's Tabletop Bonsai.
