In a simple but salient and infinitely expandable curatorial gesture, the Loft at Liz's examines the ubiquity of numbers in modern life. From digital code-writing to passwords, keypads, cell phones, credit cards, IDs, and shopping club memberships; from numerology to astrology, complex encryption algorhythms, and of course, money, it seems that it all comes down to math these days. Tonight, several of the artists in It's a Numbers Game gather to swap stories of the havoc and heroism of the numbers in their lives. Among the show's highlights is a semi-detached installation by Doni Silver Simons, a painter and installation artist whose work centers around the performative and symbolically narrative activities of counting, mark-making/marking time, and meditating on the measurable aspects of existence.
