English composer and conductor Sir Peter Maxwell Davies (born 1934) is currently Master of the Queen's Music.
In 1971 he moved to the Orkney Islands, where he founded the St Magnus Festival in 1977. He frequently uses this festival to premiere his latest works, which are often played by the local school orchestra.
