Taking their name from an erstwhile soda pop from India, Goldspot bring a welcome glimmer of light to an occasionally overly melancholic, aggro, or bleak musical landscape. But just when you feel their sweetly global grooves might be too saccharine, they deliver impassioned and refreshingly earnest lyrics. Co-produced by Beach Boys engineer Jeff Peters, Goldspot's sophomore release, And the Elephant Is Dancing, is reminiscent of the best in classic psych-rock mixed with vintage Indian music. Described by frontman Siddhartha Khosla as "post-punk Bollywood and pop," the band formed in LA after Khosla met drummer Ramy Antoun, who counts the Black Eyed Peas and Seal among his credits. Following a live performance on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic, Goldspot hit the Hotel Café to showcase an impressive repertoire of dreamy, melodic, and occasionally heartbreaking tunes.
