Descended from New York colonial governor Peter Stuyvesant, son of a Life magazine editor, former husband of Kate McGarrigle, and father of pop sensations Rufus and Martha Wainwright, legacy could be folk singer, Loudon Wainwright III's middle name (but it's really Snowden). His personal accomplishments include 1972 hit, "Dead Skunk", two Grammy-Award nominated albums, a recurring role as the singing surgeon on M*A*S*H, and the score of Knocked Up (2007). On his most recent album, Recovery, he revisits early songs, adding fuller multi-layered arrangements, and imbues them with the musical and emotional wisdom he's gained during his four-decade career. LWIII's famously engaging stage persona continues to make his live show a must-see.
