Local bands Marvelous Toy and Le Switch plus Aussie transplant Matt Ellis support relentlessly touring but increasingly Angelenic fellow-Aussie Andy Clockwise on a bill born of the stylistic bonds and cross-pollination between American and Australian alt-country and progressive, modern folk. Marvelous Toy and Le Switch lean more toward the chic and frothy, swinging shoegaze, with the classically trained and classic-rock loving Clockwise delivering heavier, wall-of-sound melodies and a legendary live show equally influenced by the golden age of FM rock. Matt Ellis splits the difference, supporting his just-released disc Births, Deaths, and Marriages — a soulful, ruminative collection of southern-rock tinged songs that balances the catchy hooks of midnight-cowboy love-and-loss with sultry vocal textures and an affable but intense live presence.
