Frank Lloyd Gallery says…

Larry Bell is living proof that it's never too late to expand your horizons. A pillar of the Southern California art world for three decades, Bell's best-known collage work was always adventurous and eclectic in the range of materials implicated under the catch-all "mixed media," and the new large-scale works in Portraits of Joan (on view through March 27) are no exception. But in a rare, recent divergence, this suite of metallic, plasticized, and otherwise industrialized materials are used to represent not a quasi-abstract landscape, but pictures of a real person. Join Bell in conversation with his longtime friend and colleague, the equally non-traditional collagist — and equally zesty conversationalist — the inimitable Tony Berlant as they talk (metal) shop.
