While we certainly wish them all the luck in the world, we hope that the Last Bookstore's name proves un-prophetic. A labor of pure bibliophilia, the store's emphasis is on affordable, gently used literature, glossy, intelligentsia-oriented art and culture magazines, and rare art and architecture tomes. But in an enlightened move toward real support of local writers, the store offered local arts & letters figure Chiwan Choi to curate a rotating shelf of chapbooks — self-produced mini-volumes of original poetry and short prose. Curated with a sensitive and eclectic eye, the offerings are very inexpensive, encouraging experimentation on the part of even the most casual reader, in a bid to get them hooked for life.
