Chris Natrop is an installation artist by nature, known for his labor-intensive, room-engulfing sculptural environments constructed of cut and painted elements. Using a meticulous and advanced version of a scissors-and-paper cut-out technique, plus atmospheric engineering using reflective pigment, ambient and staged lighting, and immersive scale, Natrop's work itself evokes the bog-lands and reedy gardens it portrays. For his new show at Taylor de Cordoba, Natrop offers more singular individual pieces, but still could not resist nestling them in a more complex ecosystem of tendrils and mirrors that transforms the gallery into one of his magical secret gardens.

Taylor De Cordoba Gallery says…

Taylor De Cordoba is pleased to present myopic spring tangle, a multi-media installation by Los Angeles-based artist Chris Natrop. As opposed to Natrop's previous and more immersive installations, myopic spring tangle is comprised of discrete works of art interrelating as a whole. While utilizing the existing gallery architecture, the artist employs myriad techniques and uses varied materials to transform the space into a unique environment. In one area, hand-cut pieces of paper painted with watercolor hang from the ceiling in a cluster. Illuminated by small fluorescent tube fixtures with colored gel overlays. This work is "tangled" with colored thread, which travels through the gallery rafters.
