“Otis College continues to churn out the serious artists and designers, with an eclectic alumni list whose influences have been felt for 50 years. The new exhibition takes a smaller core sample of "only" 20 years (1989-2009) and fewer graduates; it does not pretend to be comprehensive, but it does manage to reflect something of the range of practices honed at the institution over the years, from photography to installation, sculpture, multimedia, and all kinds of in-between. On Wednesday, April 28 (6:30pm), join artist and Graduate Fine Arts program chair Roy Dowell on an exhibition walk-through, and stick around for an evening of cocktails and readings celebrating the 10th anniversary of the school's equally impressive graduate writing program.”
Otis College says: The Story of O: Graduate Fine Arts 1989-2009 features new work by alumni who attended Otis College of Art and Design’s distinguished Graduate Fine Arts program between 1989 and 2009 and studied under the leadership of artist and Chair Roy Dowell. Alumni participants were selected by a panel of five jurors: Sarah C. Bancroft, Curator, Orange County Museum of Art; Dr. Nizan Shaked (’00), Assistant Professor of Contemporary Art History, Museum and Curatorial Studies at California State University Long Beach; Meg Linton, Director of Galleries and Exhibitions, OTIS Ben Maltz Gallery; Roy Dowell, Artist and Chair, OTIS Graduate Fine Arts; and Annetta Kapon (’85), Artist and Assistant Chair, OTIS Graduate Fine Arts.
