Truth, Revised Histories, Wishful Thinking, and Flat-Out Lies cuts through the mind-dulling cacophony of competing messages and media-generated "reality" to get at simpler, yet existentially way more profound, questions about the construction of belief systems, the relative nature of truth, and the search for meaning. Known for work that teems with contorted humor and inventive movement, Jasperse brings his company of six dancers to play out this whimsical, earnest, and intense look at the world along with a live string quartet, International Contemporary Ensemble, working a warm, theatrical score by Hahn Rowe.

REDCAT says…

In this witty, meticulously devised collage set to a score for string quartet and electronics, one of the dance world's most astute and influential innovators turns his keen attentions to the often fluid boundaries between reality and fantasy, belief and illusion, the sincere and the ironic. By juxtaposing varied styles of dance, performance and music, Jasperse asks us to examine what we believe, what we don't, and why. In particular, he looks to the wider history of performance practice, in which illusion has been alternately cultivated, in the service of creating theatrical magic, and shunned, in the search for an honest or demystified expression. Along the way we explore a panoply of heresies, radical ideas, delusional thoughts — and just plain nonsense. Rich with wry humor, Truth features movement for six performers and composer Hahn Rowe's original music, played by ICE. Lighting (with Joseph Levasseur), sets, props, and even oddball magic tricks are all designed by Jasperse. This is the West Coast premiere.
