The legend goes, 420 first came into existence in 1971 after a group of California high school students met each day at 4:20pm (by a statue of Louis Pasteur) in order to smoke pot. The fortuitous combination of numbers has since been evoked in the 2004 medical marijuana regulation proposal, Senate Bill 420, as well as in countless references to drug culture worldwide. On a more somber note, April 20 was also Hitler's birthday, and the date of the 1999 Columbine massacre, so it's even more imperative for global tokers to embrace the date as a full-fledged holiday of their own. In a nod to the ever-increasing popular acceptance of marijuana, Antebellum kicks off its exhibition, 420: Cannabis as Art, on April 20 — the highest international counter-culture holiday.

Antebellum Gallery says…

Antebellum says: Antebellum, the only fetish art gallery in America, and perhaps the world, continues its tradition of bringing fetish to the mainstream with its new exhibit, 420: Cannabis as Art. Tickets for opening night are $10.
