We had such a blast with this one last week, that we're giving you a second shot at catching it! Every once in a while, an amazing human feat that tests the boundaries of endurance actually makes you go "wow" -- and then your mind is blown again when you learn about who pulled it off. Big River Man (winner of the World Cinema Cinematography Award: Documentary award at Sundance '09) follows Martin Strel, four-time world record holding endurance swimmer, and his insane attempt to be the first person to swim the world’s most hostile and dangerous river, the mighty Amazon. By the way, Strel is 53 years old, overweight, and a heavy drinker. Director John Maringouin captures the incredible journey and unusual man with equal amounts of respect and “what-the-fuck?!?” attitude, as we watch Martin down a bottle of wine and shots of whiskey per day -- while swimming.
Dir. John Maringouin, 2009, 100 min.
