In conjunction with the opening of the landmark exhibition Monsters and Miracles, the Skirball Cultural Center offers a special preview day on April 7. The gallery is open during the afternoon for Skirball members, with special curator tours available by advance reservation; and remains open in the evening for all ticket-holders to tonight's discussion. Think of it as story-time for grown-ups, as author and exhibition co-curator Ilan Stavans, along with a panel of artists and writers whose work is featured in the show, guide viewers through the centuries of history represented in this eclectic survey.

Skirball Cultural Center says…

Celebrating the opening of Monsters and Miracles: A Journey through Jewish Picture Books, exhibition co-curator and acclaimed scholar and author Ilan Stavans moderates a discussion with a distinguished group of illustrators and authors whose works are featured in the exhibition. Panelists include: Caldecott Medal winners Mordicai Gerstein and Simms Taback; French artist Serge Bloch, whose illustrations appear regularly in The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times; and prolific children's book writer and Iowa Writer's Workshop graduate Laurel Snyder. A book signing follows the program.
