Plaza de la Raza is pleased to announce a major retrospective of Linda Vallejo's wide-ranging career. Vallejo is a pioneer in the Los Angeles art scene and has exhibited locally and internationally. The exhibit titled Fierce Beauty: The Art of Linda Vallejo, a Forty-Year Retrospective has been curated by Betty Ann Brown and features over forty artworks tracing Vallejo's remarkable trajectory from her early conceptually-rooted works to recent sculptures and paintings exploring "electric realism."

 

This landmark exhibit is presented by Plaza de la Raza Cultural Center for the Arts & Education in conjunction with their 40th Year Anniversary. "We are excited and pleased to host this exhibit of an important artist who has given so much to the community over the years. She is a role model and unsung heroine in many respects." said Rose Cano, Executive Director of Plaza de la Raza.

Curator Betty Ann Brown, a Professor of Art History at California State University Northridge writes, "Beautiful and difficult, poetic and troubling, seductive and confronting, Linda Vallejo's artworks function as powerful gifts... Vallejo's oeuvre is remarkably diverse. Beginning her art career with training as a printmaker, she soon transgressed the traditional limits of that medium..."
