The qualifying festival for Film Independent's Spirit Awards, Los Angeles Film Festival screens hundreds of feature-length narratives, documentaries, music videos, and shorts from dozens of countries — in addition to hosting premieres, panels, seminars, live music, and free screenings. The film fest features works by up-and-coming filmmakers as well as classics and rare gems; 2010 highlights include the documentaries Separado! and One Lucky Elephant; international narratives Animal Kingdom and Eyes Wide Open; and Big in Japan: A Selection of Japanese Music Videos, in a program festival organizers describe as "a bridge between independent and mainstream cinema."
