One of the most truly refreshing of the current crop of Pepsi Refresh contestants, Long Beach/Los Angeles' homegrown art showcase, RAW: natural born artists, wants to take its show on the road. Currently planning an ambitious — some would say insane — cross-country road-trip to raise awareness and plant seeds for the future, the captains of RAW are in fund-raising mode. Join the party tonight aboard the legendary Queen Mary, where you'll find all the art, music, fashion, and inspiration you could want, while supporting the cause of independent artists here and (soon) across the nation.

Note:

As you're headed to the LBC anyway, make sure to stop by Phantom Galleries to see Jennifer Celio's new exhibition, I wanna be here in my city, on view through July 3.

The Queen Mary says…

RAWartists says:

For a year now, RAW:natural born artists has been serving Southern Californian creative communities by showcasing up-and-coming artists from all artistic genres: visual arts, film, music, fashion, hair and makeup design, and performing art. After a year of discovering and showcasing extremely talented artists in local neighborhoods, RAW plans to move outside of California with the goal of unifying artists everywhere and growing the creative community at-large … RAWcross America. RAW’s directors Heidi Luerra and Matthew Klahorst will be visiting 15 major metropolitan cities this fall during a two month cross country road trip. The organizers estimate the total trip and expansion will cost around $15-20k. Luerra jokes “We’ll be eating tuna from a can and pawning our most precious items to make this happen”. As part of an effort to raise funds in anticipation for the nationwide launch, RAW:natural born artists is hosting an evening of the arts aboard the historical Queen Mary in Long Beach, accepting donations from attending guests. Along with a sponsored cocktail and hors d’oeuvre hour, guest can enjoy short film screenings from local independent filmmakers as well as an all night art and photo gallery. “RAWk the Boat” will present musical performances by 19 year old singer songwriter, Angela Mukul, Pop/Rock band, The Victors, and Orange County bred hip hop performance powerhouse, APoetNomadAli; fashion shows featuring clothing lines from designers Dane Lenon, Alexander Simon Peuchot, and Popavina; and a performance by Collabor8 dance group will cap the evening. The night will also host vendor booths including accessories, clothing and crafts by local indie artisans provided by Graffiti Beach (GraffitiBeach.org). RAW will curate a silent auction featuring the art, jewelry, and one-of-a-kind dresses donated by over 30 RAW artist alums. The silent auction will benefit the RAWcross America road trip.
