Afro-pop and desert disco are the stars of tonight's hybrid Hollywood Bowl World Music extravaganza. On the bill: Senegalese singer/guitarist Baaba Maal, who sings a mix of French and Pulaar hooks; Tinariwen, a nomadic troupe of Tuareg musicians who salute their homeland in the Saharan desert (described by The Irish Times as "the most rock 'n' roll of them all"); alternative Brooklyn beatmasters Yeasayer; and the multimedia project Playing For Change, an entertaining collective initiative dedicated to building schools for international kids in need.

Hollywood Bowl says…

"What is Afro-pop? For Baaba Maal, it's a technotilted band of beatmaking and ecstatic harmonies; for Yeasayer, it's electroinfused desert disco…each artist at this festival underscores the diversity of the continent's influence on music today." – LA Times
